Frequently Asked Questions

what can i expect in my first counselling session?

It is okay to feel unsure, nervous or even excited about your first session. When you arrive, I will greet you and invite you in. We will have a relaxed conversation about what has brought you to therapy and what you might like to work on. The first session is an opportunity to get to know one another. You will be able to share your story and experiences with me, as well as ask questions. My role is to hold the space for you and get an understanding of your thoughts, feelings and perspectives.

how long are sessions and how often will we meet?

Sessions typically last 50 minutes. The frequency of sessions depends on your needs and goals but many clients start with weekly sessions. We can discuss and adjust the frequency as we go, based on what feels right for you.

how many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions you will need depends on your individual goals and the challenges you are working through. Some clients find that a few sessions are enough to make meaningful progress, while others may benefit from longer-term support. We will regularly assess how you are feeling and make adjustments as needed to ensure you are receiving the support that best meets your needs.

is counselling confidential?

Yes, confidentiality is a core principle of my practice. I follow strict ethical guidelines to ensure your privacy is protected, with a few exceptions related to safety and legal obligations. If you have any concerns about confidentiality, I am happy to discuss them with you.

are you a registered counsellor?

Yes, I am a registered counsellor. I am accredited with the Australian Counselling Association (ACA), which ensures I adhere to high professional and ethical standards in my practice.

what if I don’t feel comfortable, can i switch counsellors?

Absolutely! It is important that you feel comfortable. If you feel a change is needed, I can help you find someone who better suits your needs.

do you accept Medicare or private health insurance?

Unfortunately, Medicare does not currently cover the cost of counselling sessions and I am unable to offer private health rebates.

how do i know you are the right health professional to support me?

Choosing the right health professional is an important decision. I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation where we can discuss your needs and goals. This gives us both a chance to determine if we are a good fit before moving forward. Your comfort and trust are my priority, and I am here to support you in finding the right approach to your well-being.

what should i do in case of an emergency?

If you are experiencing a crisis or emergency, please contact emergency services by dialing 000.

how do I book a session?

You can book a session by contacting me through my website, phone or email.

what if i need to cancel or reschedule a session?

I understand that things come up. Please provide at least 24 hours notice for cancellations or rescheduling to avoid a cancellation fee. Cancellations within 24 hours of the session time or non-attendance on the day will incur the full session fee.
